Administrative History | The ancient parish of Chester St. Bridget had no dependent townships. The parish church stood at the angle of White Friars and Bridge Street until 1829 when it was removed during the construction of the Grosvenor Bridge and Road. A new church was built to the West of the new Castle Esplanade. In 1842 the ancient parishes of St. Bridget and St. Martin were united, the united benefice being known as St. Bridget with St. Martin. In 1891 St. Bridget's church was pulled down, and the church of St. Mary on the Hill whose parish was transferred in 1887 to the new church of St. Mary without the Walls was constituted the parish church of St. Bridget with St. Martin. The church of St. Mary on the Hill was declared redundant in 1972 in the reorganisation of the several Chester parishes |
